Reading the travel section of the Times has led me to grow a list of places I want to visit. If I could, I would go to the following places all at once (not listed in any particular order and not comprehensive): Ancient civilizations: Japan: I have a friend living there now, and it would be great to catch up.
Mongolia: the scenery looks amazing.
Mediterranean countries: Italy is the only one I've ever been to so far. I think the other countries are probably similar in having great food, warm people, fantastic weather, relaxed lifestyle.
Russia: history is not my specialty, but I'm interested in learning more. The birthplace of some of my favorite authors, artists, and composers. This trip can be combined with the one to Mongolia.
Africa: Kenya, South Africa, and other places that allow visitors.
South America: Colombia (one of my favorite teachers of all time is from there), Argentina, Peru, Venezuela, the list goes on.
Other countries in Europe: this list is endless
Newer civilizations:
The Pacific northwestern coastline
The Grand Canyon: can you believe I haven't seen it yet?
All fifty states: I picture a road trip for accomplishing this.
Australia
Quebec City and other parts of Quebec: I liked Quebec City the first time I visited and would like to go back and see more places.
Other provinces of Canada: I've been to British Columbia and Alberta and loved my time in both, would like to go back and explore more places.

I live in one of the few states that has service attendants for gas stations (this tidbit helps my readers narrow down to where I'm located!). Last winter, I came up with an idea to do something nice for these attendants and never got around to doing it, being a slow poke, and would like to implement it this time around. Others who also live in similar states might be interested in trying this out if they haven't already embarked on the same concept.
It's nothing complicated really. Since tips are usually not given to attendants of this type (why is that anyway when we tip at every other place?), and with winter being here and them being outside so much of their shift, I've partnered up with someone close to me to purchase warming paraphernalia (I have ultra-heat-retaining socks in mind because an extra pair is always welcome, but maybe other accessories would work as well) to give out randomly, preferably at gas stations we happen to stop in, not ones we go to regularly to avoid coming across as having the Brownie Points Syndrome.
I think this would be a nice gesture because it doesn't take much and would go a long way. In our rush bosch (I made up this phrase to mean . . . well, it's obvious), we tend to race past each other in routine circles, and a brief pause of this kind would help fill the sad pockets.
Plus this year I have been participating in a group in which we discuss doing acts of kindness on a daily basis. This falls right in line with the idea I formed last winter, so I'm definitely going to implement it starting with the new year. I encourage everyone who reads this to take on acts of kindness daily as well. If not with gas attendants, with anyone else you encounter who can use support and some help. The foundations we learned in the group to do on an everyday basis: Structure. Acts of Kindness. Support. Simplicity.
By recording this note in my journal, I'm reminding myself to make sure to try this idea out. Tags: acts of kindness, gas attendants, ultra-warm socks Current Mood: thoughtful

Been watching a bunch of old episodes of Friends. Really miss the show sometimes and wish the series didn't wrap up already. I still remember looking forward to each brand new episode at the start of the week, catching it with friends and entering discussions afterwards.
Rewatching recently, I detect a little bit of all the female characters in my personality. I can be detail-oriented and bossy; a little goofy, creative, and odd; generally girly and into shopping--without being any of the extremes that each character is supposed to represent.
Thanks to You Tube, I've been able to relocate a ton of favorite episodes. I was also told that a lot of You Tube is outlawed material. Is this true? Is most of the stuff clearly illegal or questionably outside of the law? This is exactly what I mean about the Internet. We're on here scribbling, transferring files, downloading this and that, and then we find out this or that might be okay or not. I find this state of things, this way of running the Internet, very dumb. There has to be a better way of organizing the extra space we've created.Tags: miss old shows, old episodes of friends, you tube
